Intel is a global corporation, but more than half of Intel’s manufacturing is done here in the United States. Our U.S. investments have made Intel one of the top employers in both Arizona and New Mexico—as well as Oregon’s largest corporate employer—with key facilities in eight states.
Oregon is home to Intel’s largest and most comprehensive site in the world and is a global center of semiconductor research and manufacturing. Intel has invested more than $ 1 billion annually in Oregon for the past eight years, keeping Intel on the leading edge of manufacturing development.
Intel is spending $ 3 billion over the next two years in its Arizona site. Fab 32 will be retooled to manufacture Intel’s industry-leading, next-generation 32 nanometer technology. Arizona also hosts the R&D efforts of Intel’s Assembly Test and Technology Development group.
Intel is spending $ 2 billion over the next two years in its New Mexico site to retool Fab 11X, making it one of four Intel 32 nanometer factories in the U.S. This investment contributes to the existing $ 1.5 billion investment made for 45 nanometer development in New Mexico.
Intel has had a major manufacturing and R&D presence in Massachusetts since 1998 and has invested more than $ 2 billion dollars to upgrade the Fab 17 facility.
Inspiring young innovators; supporting teachers and schools
The Intel Foundation sponsors the most prestigious high school science competition in the U.S. (the Intel Science Talent Search) and the world’s largest science competition (the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair). Both of these competitions are programs of the Society for Science & the Public.
The Intel® Teach Program has helped teachers integrate technology tools into their lessons to prepare students for the global economy. In the U.S., Intel offers Intel Teach Elements, which is a series of compelling, short professional development courses for teachers that provide deeper exploration of 21st century learning concepts. Teachers learn new methods, such as project-based approaches, assessment of 21st century skills, and collaboration with Web 2.0 tools.
Intel Schools of Distinction honors K-12 schools that have demonstrated excellence in math and science education.
Strengthening communities
Intel doesn’t just work in our communities; Intel works with them as well. We combine our technical expertise, the energy of our employees, and our creative ideas to help enrich communities across America.
Through the Intel Involved Volunteer Program, over a quarter of the company’s U.S. employees donate thousands of hours to education, environmental programs, and other local community needs. Through the Intel Involved Matching Grant Program, the Intel Foundation makes cash donations to schools and community organizations where our employees volunteer.
Through annual Intel Community Giving campaigns, employees make contributions to non-profit organizations. These donations are matched with Intel Foundation funds for the United Way. In 2009, the U.S. Community Giving Campaign raised more than $ 12 million.
Environmental sustainability
Intel works to reduce the environmental impact of its operations—from cutting greenhouse gas emissions to minimizing water use to recycling and reusing materials.
